There are two bills that have been introduced this session that will measurably impact Maine's small businesses and the jobs they provide. Sen. Libby Mitchell's proposal to mandate paid sick leave (LD 1665) and Rep. Pingree's bill to add costs to running small businesses by allowing vacation pay at the same time a laid-off worker is receiving unemployment (LD 1626). It's double dipping. When we have recovered from the recession, the law would remain on the books and make Maine even less competitive as a place to create jobs. These are both job killer bills in a state of small family-run businesses.
